Three members of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Malibu Search and Rescue Team, received Awards on July 7, 2015, for Conspicuous Heroism from the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA), the preeminent mountain rescue certifying organization in the United States.
The awards were for their life saving efforts to rescue four hikers who were stranded on a rock in a rushing river during a torrential rainstorm in early 2014. The rescue occurred at Malibu Creek State Park in Malibu, California, and was detailed in the following news articles. The rescuers are all Reserve Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies with a combined 59 years of mountain rescue experience. Two of them are lawyers and one is a doctor.
