The Los Angeles Fire Department was selected today as one of 15 recipients of the Freedom Award, which honors employers for support of employees who are members of the National Guard or military reserves.
The department was among 2,864 nominees for the award. Firefighter/Paramedic David Danielson, who is also a senior chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, nominated the department, citing the department’s efforts on behalf of its 130 employees who are veterans or affiliated with the National Guard or reserves.
Recipients are chosen by the Office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Department officials will formally receive the award Sept. 26 at the Pentagon.
“We are proud to support our LAFD employees, who also wear the uniform in service of our nation,” said LAFD interim Chief James Featherstone. “We are honored to receive this recognition and owe a tribute to not only members in the military, but those at home who support them as well.”
