A woman was killed Monday when the car in which she was a passenger went up the right shoulder embankment of the transition from the Golden State (5) Freeway to the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Boyle Heights, authorities said.
The accident was reported at 1:38 a.m. on the transition from the northbound Golden State Freeway to the eastbound San Bernardino Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig.
The black Dodge Charger went up the right shoulder embankment and struck “an object,” Kravig said.
The woman, who is believed to have been in her mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. The driver was taken to a hospital.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:17 a.m. for the far right lane of the Golden State Freeway and the transition road, Kravig said. The road was fully reopened at about 5 a.m.
