Marking the 50th anniversary of “Star Trek,” the U.S. Postal Service dedicated four stamps in Hollywood today paying homage to the television show that began in 1966 and has spawned a series of films and multiple television reboots.
The stamps, which were officially introduced in New York last week, are “Forever” stamps, meaning they will be valid for a first-class mailing at any time after purchase, regardless of a change in the cost of a stamp.
The “Star Trek” stamps, which were unveiled at the Hollywood Post Office, include four images from the classic series:
— the Starship Enterprise in the outline of a Starfleet insignia;
— the silhouette of a crewman in a transporter;
— the silhouette of the Enterprise from above; and
— the Enterprise inside the outline of the Vulcan salute.
The stamps include the words “Space … The Final Frontier” against a background of stars.
Since the original 1960s television series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, the show has led to more than a dozen feature films and five other television series.
