The Los Angeles Rams will hold a meeting for their players today in Manhattan Beach to give them information about the team’s return to Southern California.
The team hopes to be able to tell the players where training camp will be held and where the team’s temporary practice facility will be, coach Jeff Fisher said in story posted on the team’s website, therams.com.
The Rams may practice at the temporary site for 2 1/2 years until completion of their new stadium in Inglewood, set for 2019, Fisher said.
Team officials will use the meeting to recommend where the players should live.
“Let them know traffic patterns and travel and things like that, because 22- and 23-year-old athletes need to get to work on time,” Fisher said. “Don’t try to commute from Newport through L.A. to the West San Fernando Valley, for example.”
The Rams are holding the meeting “because once the season ended, they went different directions. And it’s just easier to answer one question once than it is 60 times,” Fisher said.
The meeting will be the team’s first gathering of players in Los Angeles since its return to Southern California was approved by NFL owners on Jan. 12.
The Rams needed to receive permission from the league and NFL Players Association, the union representing the league’s players, to hold the meeting because of limitations of off-season gatherings under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
