Mexican singer Luis Miguel was hit with a default judgment of nearly $100,000 in a lawsuit by the owners of a home interior design company, who claimed he did not pay the balance on cabinet work done in his Los Angeles home.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Barbara Meiers signed the judgment against the 45-year-old entertainer on Monday.
Miguel failed to participate in the case after being sued by Clive Christian San Francisco in July 2014. In 2012, according to the suit, Miguel paid a $103,170 deposit toward the overall sum due of $206,335.
With deductions of credits and other payments, Miguel still owed $88,140, plus $9,120 in pre-judgment interest and $1,235 in legal costs for a total of about $98,500, according to the default judgment papers.
Popularly known as “El Sol de Mexico,” Miguel has won five Grammy awards and four Latin Grammys and sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
