A fire in a single-story business east of Los Angeles still burned after more than an hour today, and more than 110 firefighters could only concentrate on preventing it from spreading to
neighboring structures.
The fire was several blocks from the County/USC Medical Center, and smoke could be seen as far away as from West Los Angeles.
Firefighters were dispatched at 11:28 a.m. to the one-story structure at 4390 E. Valley Blvd., on the Metrolink railroad tracks just east of Soto Avenue. They reported seeing heavy fire and neighboring buildings in danger of catching fire, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
About 12:05 p.m., the 110 firefighters at the scene transitioned to defensive operations with hand lines being used from the roof of adjacent buildings, in addition to exterior fire hose lines, Stewart said.
No injuries were reported, and firefighters asked that train operations be stopped on the nearby San Bernardino Line Metrolink tracks.
