Beverly Hills police Tuesday warned residents about a scammer pretending to represent the city on the guise of setting up a property inspection.
According to police, a resident recently received a call from a man identifying himself as being from the “City of Beverly Hills Commission Group” and asking if he could inspect the resident’s property for earthquake damage.
“Believing this was suspicious, being that there have been no recent earthquakes, the resident asked … for his phone number in order to verify that he was calling from the city,” according to a police statement.
The caller “declined, and stated he had thousands of people to call and there was no phone number he could provide (at) which the resident could contact him,” police said.
The resident then notified police, who urged people to call them at (310) 550-4951 to report any similar calls.
