An assault with a deadly weapon suspect armed with a knife was killed in an officer-involved shooting near the Hollywood & Highland center tonight, police said.
Officers responded about 7 pm to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in progress at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland
Avenue, said Officer Jane Kim of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
Upon arrival, they encountered a man with a knife and an officer- involved shooting occurred, she said.
It was not known if there were other injuries at the scene, she said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, Kim said.
A knife was found at the shooting scene, ABC7 reported, citing information from the LAPD.
The intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, among the city’s busiest for pedestrian traffic, would be closed indefinitely, while the crime scene was examined, LAPD Sgt. Chuck Slater said.
“It could take just a few hours, or until tomorrow,” for the intersection to be re-opened, Slater said.
