A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Metrolink train today in the Northridge area, authorities said.
Paramedics were sent to the 8300 block of Balboa Boulevard at 7:40 a.m. and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
No one was hurt on the train. The gender of the fatally injured person was not immediately known.
Train number 101, carrying 70 passengers, was heading north from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, bound for Moorpark in Ventura County, when it struck the pedestrian, said Jeff Lustgarten of Metrolink. The train stopped a short distance away.
A “bus bridge” was being arranged to ferry Metrolink passengers between the Chatsworth and Van Nuys stations, Lustgarten said. Train 106 was stopped in Chatsworth, and Train 103 was stopped in Van Nuys, Lustgarten said. The passengers on Train 101 will have to remain on board until the train is released by authorities, he said.
