A federal officer fired a shot but struck no one today during a pro-Israel rally at the Federal Building in Westwood that was attended by around 500 people.
The rally at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Veteran Ave. followed one staged Saturday in support of Palestinians, but pro-Palestinian protesters decrying Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip also showed up today, inflaming tensions, according to media reports.
A federal protective services officer fired a shot around 5:45 p.m., but no one was struck, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
People were being detained for questioning, she said, but it was unclear how many and if any were arrested.
