Bomb Threats in Los Angeles, Culver City

LAPD
Westside Today latest police news.

Two separate bomb threats drew law enforcement officials to a Culver City school and Los Angeles building within one hour each other on April 25.

At 2:20 p.m. on Friday afternoon, a man reportedly walked into a Mid-Wilshire area building and falsely claimed to have a bomb was in custody today, police said.

The man quickly was arrested, but he left behind a backpack that drew a bomb squad, Los Angeles Police Dept. (LAPD) Officer Norma Eisenman said. She added the backpack was found to contain only personal items and the scene was cleared at 4:46 p.m.

Traffic in the area was affected due to intermittent lane closures as police conducted their investigation.

The incident occurred in the 5000 block of Wilshire Boulevard near Highland Avenue.

No information was released about whether the suspect was charged, whether he is in custody, and if he is scheduled to make any court appearances.

At about 3:20 p.m. a few miles southwest, a bomb threat against a Culver City preschool caused evacuations before it was found to be a hoax.

The threat was called in Friday afternoon at Happyland Preschool at 4045 Lafayette Place, according to the Culver City Police Department.

Officers responded and evacuated the school and neighboring residents, police said.

After using bomb-sniffing dogs to sweep the campus, “the area was deemed safe and the call determined to be a hoax,” according to a police statement.

Detectives were investigating the origin of the call, police said.

It was the second incident at or near a Culver City area school. Two days earlier, a female middle school student reported to the Culver City Police Dept. a man attempted to abduct her when she was walking home from school.
