On Saturday, October 13, 2012 Saint John’s Health Center trustees, Irene Dunne Guild members, patrons, friends, physicians, Foundation and Health Center leadership and prominent business and community leaders came out to celebrate at Saint John’s 2012 Caritas Gala at the Beverly Wilshire.
Each year, the Saint John’s Foundation and the Irene Dunne Guild host the Caritas Gala to honor those who demonstrate compassion and concern for others through exceptional service to the community. This year the Health Center recognized Sister Maureen Craig, SCL, who is celebrating her 60th Jubilee as a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, with the Caritas Award and the Tarble Foundation with the Spirit of Saint John’s Award.
Sister Maureen Craig, SCL, was honored with the Caritas Award for her exemplary leadership in living out her personal commitment to Saint John’s healthcare ministry. Sister’s compassionate spirit and devotion to caring for others have touched the lives of so many patients, families, physicians and employees. Sister, a stellar example of the healing mission of the Sisters of Charity and Saint John’s, is the author of two books, The Golden Promise, a history of Saint John’s and a volume of poetry.
The Tarble Foundation received the Spirit of Saint John’s Award for its commitment to improving the community and its long-standing friendship and support of Saint John’s. The Foundation’s leadership gifts have contributed enormously to the new Saint John’s healthcare campus, in particular to the magnificent Tarble Atrium. This beautiful open space provides a soothing gateway to the unparalleled patient care at Saint John’s and is a fitting testament to the Tarble Foundation’s magnanimous support. Saint John’s is not alone in benefiting from the Foundation’s generosity, which has significantly contributed to great institutions of higher learning, the arts and a number of other humanitarian causes.
Proceeds from the Caritas Gala benefit the Health Center’s programs and services such as the Child and Family Development Center, Women’s Health Services and the Irene Dunne Guild Gift Shop. As a nationally recognized hospital, Saint John’s is dedicated to providing breakthrough medicine with inspired healing and is continuously improving the health center and the care it provides. Funds, such as those raised through the Caritas Gala, are vital to patient care and allowing Saint John’s to continue providing cutting-edge treatments. This year’s major Dinner Chair sponsors included Abbott L. Brown, Pat and Jerry B. Epstein, the S. H. Ho Foundation (David and Martha Ho), Donna J. Mettler and Domonic Ornato.
