CLIMATE REALITY Event on March 8th in Mar Vista

The Climate ProjectA new report by Environment America finds that federally declared weather-related disasters in the United States have affected counties housing 242 million people – or roughly four out of five Americans.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power cautions that carbon-based fossil fuel emissions have reached “dangerous levels†with possible impacts to Los Angeles including rising tides; violent storms and floods; hotter, dryer days; increased frequency of wildfires; and reduced water and energy reliability.

On Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 5:30pm at the Mar Vista library, Open Neighborhoods and PermaCity present MAR VISTA CLIMATE REALITY – the Race to 100% Clean Power.

Los Angeles Unified School District Secondary School Science Advisor John Zavalney will share the latest climate science with a lively discussioFree Screening of FUELn highlighting the growing incidence of extreme weather events and their connection to increased greenhouse gas pollution in the atmosphere. More information at www.climaterealityproject.org.

The event will include a screening of FUEL, a fast-paced 35 minute look into our clean energy future and winner of the Sundance Audience Award. The official trailer and more is available at www.thefuelfilm.com.

In 2009 Mar Vista became the first neighborhood in Los Angeles to adopt a goal of 100% clean electricity. Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee Co-Chair Sherri Akers will participate in the March 8th event to highlight the neighborhood’s green initiatives and what can be done by individuals and communities to make a difference.

Open Neighborhoods and PermaCity present MAR VISTA CLIMATE REALITY as part of a LoOpen Neighborhoods Community Solars Angeles County-wide solar program offering free rooftop assessments and up to 33% group discount for residential, commercial and multi-family solar panel installations.
