A new report by Environment America finds that federally declared weather-related disasters in the United States have affected counties housing 242 million people – or roughly four out of five Americans.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power cautions that carbon-based fossil fuel emissions have reached “dangerous levels†with possible impacts to Los Angeles including rising tides; violent storms and floods; hotter, dryer days; increased frequency of wildfires; and reduced water and energy reliability.

Los Angeles Unified School District Secondary School Science Advisor John Zavalney will share the latest climate science with a lively discussion highlighting the growing incidence of extreme weather events and their connection to increased greenhouse gas pollution in the atmosphere. In 2009 Mar Vista became the first neighborhood in Los Angeles to adopt a goal of 100% clean electricity. Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee Co-Chair Sherri Akers will participate in the March 8th event to highlight the neighborhood’s green initiatives and what can be done by individuals and communities to make a difference.
Open Neighborhoods and PermaCity present MAR VISTA CLIMATE REALITY as part of a Los Angeles County-wide solar program offering free rooftop assessments and up to 33% group discount for residential, commercial and multi-family solar panel installations. The program includes access to new funding available through a partnership between Google and Clean Power Finance to put solar panels on residential rooftops.
