EXCITING EVENTS AT BRENTWOOD SCHOOL

Yearbook wins a Pacemaker Award!

The 2008-2009 Brentwood School Yearbook, Aerie, won the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Award, awarded to the top yearbooks in the country based on theme/concept, coverage, design, writing, and photography. There were 52 finalists for the Pacemaker this year and the Aerie was one of 15 that came home with the prize. Advisor Mark Novom, along with Aerie students Robert Kane, Sam Hanigan, Amy Wecker, Katie Grossbard, and Tiffany Mikail, attended the NSPA Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, this past weekend to accept the award. This win marks the second time Brentwood has won a Pacemaker. The first time was in 1997.

Math, Science, and Fun—Oh My!

On March 18, we were thrilled to welcome over 110 Lower Division families to Math and Science Family Night, where they participated in various math and science activities created by our Lower Division faculty. Classes such as “Bubbleology: The Study of the Science and Joy of Bubbles,” “Measurement Scavenger Hunt,” and “Chemical Reactions,” delighted our families as they took part in this exceptional experience. The overall goal of the evening was to see families excited about learning math and science. If the looks on participants faces were any indicator, then our goal was met with great success!

Middle Division Fencing:

Before Spring Break, our Middle Division fencing team won the Scholastic League Middle School Fencing Tournament in Victorville. The weapon was epee, and they defeated Chaminade to win the title. Congratulations to Coach Carla Corbit and the three fencers: Max Howard, David Zimmerman, and Spencer Adams-Rand.

Middle Division Debate:

This past Saturday, our Middle Division debaters participated in the national middle school debate championships, wrapping up an amazing undefeated season of spirited debate. I am so proud of their accomplishments this year and thank Coaches Todd Ballaban and Bob Crocker for their hard work. Read the full story at: http://www.bwscampus.com/community/middle.aspx
