The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings will play seven of their first eight games of the 2014-15 season at Staples Center, the NHL announced today as it revealed the complete schedules for all 30 teams.
The league announced the home openers for all 30 teams on Saturday, including the Kings playing host to the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 8 in a rematch of the first-round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Kings became the fourth team in league history in fifth in major North American professional sports to rally from a three games to none deficit to win a series.
The season opener will include the unveiling of a banner emblematic of the team’s second Stanley Cup victory in three seasons and the presentation of championship rings to players.
A Los Angeles Clippers preseason game was originally scheduled for Staples Center on Oct. 8, but the team agreed to allow the Kings to play there on the opening night of the NHL season, a Kings official said.
The New York Rangers, who the Kings defeated in the Stanley Cup Final, will make their lone Staples Center appearance on Jan. 8.
Ticket information will be announced later this summer, the team official said. The Kings have sold out their last 120 regular-season and Stanley Cup Playoff games at Staples Center, a streak that began on Dec. 3, 2011.
