We keep getting lots of letters about the Green Hollow Square project (the “Munger Project,†where Duttons used to be) and so I will try to keep my remarks short this month so as to make more room for letters.
As reported in our “News & Views†section, Bill Rosendahl came out in favor of a “preservation option†that would keep the Barry Building as part of any development; Charlie Munger has reportedly agreed to consult once again with architect Leo Marmol, who specializes in integrating older buildings into newer structures.
My CPA, Dee Steine, died last month. She has been watching over the ups and downs of Brentwood News for years and was tough as nails. Year after year, she’d ask me, “Why are you doing this?†I guess some of us are just crazy enough to love it.
Deep down inside, she was incredibly kind and took Brentwood News on as a good cause. Two years ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which finally got her. We’ll miss you, Dee. Thank you. Our best wishes go out tp Dee’s life partner James, and Jim’s daughter, Pamela, who will do her best to keep us afloat.
For those of you who are feeling kindly toward your community paper, consider sending us a contribution. Look for a “Brentwood Booster†ad somewhere in this paper to learn how.
Speaking of bright kids, I’m off to Scotland for two weeks to hang out with my daughter, Katie Hall, who is about to graduate with a PhD from University of St. Andrews. Her specialty is primatology, or the study of primates – you know, apes and monkeys. She’ll be the next Jane Goodall one day. I’m sure this proud papa will share pictures with you next month.
