Los Angeles Based Philadelphia Fans Raise Over $10,000 at “Comedy for a Cause†Fundraiser to Benefit Bryan Stow

On Tuesday night, August 9th 2011, Patrick Good, owner of The Shack in Santa Monica, California – the home of everything Philadelphia, opened up his restaurant and his heart to his beloved Philadelphia family and the Los Angeles community for a night of philanthropy, good will and sportsmanship for the “Comedy for a Cause†fundraiser to benefit Bryan Stow, the paramedic who was brutally beaten after the San Francisco Giants played the Los Angeles Dodgers on baseball’s Opening Day 2011.
This event was partly organized by Brentwood resident “Mindi-Sue,†who prefers to not use her last name. She lives on Montana Ave. in Brentwood.
Formed by a passionate group of Los Angeles based Philadelphia Phillies fans, Philly – LA Has A Heart hosted the all night event with entertainment, music, comedy and a silent auction raising over $10,000 – with 100% of the proceeds being donated to Bryan’s medical bills.
Emceed by Matt Iseman with the Stow family on hand, the capacity crowd laughed all night long from the comedy line-up of Ray Grady, Erin Foley, Dwayne Perkins and headliner Alonzo Bodden.
“We cannot believe that people we don’t even know would get together to do this for Bryan,†says Ann Stow. “This is truly the utmost example of the demonstration of goodwill and charity that can happen when fans of teams from all walks of life come together to do something positive.â€
So why was August 9th chosen to do the fundraiser? “It is a night chosen specifically because the Phillies were in town playing the Dodgers,†says event organizer Deb Axel. “As much we would have liked to go to the game and support our Phillies in person, we felt our energy was better spent raising money for the Stow family.â€
It was a great night, filled with fun, positive energy, great food and spirits, family, friends and top notch entertainment.
