Brentwood Books: Sixty, Sex, & Tango

Former actress, screenwriter, film producer and Brentwood resident, Joan Moran, has just released her second book, Sixty, Sex & Tango: Confessions of a Beatnik Boomer. In it, Joan shares her engaging, humorous and wildly entertaining personal journey through the trials and tribulations of being an active, sexy, intelligent woman in her 60s. From marriage to internet dating – through great achievements and devastating loss – one can’t help but connect with Joan and her unique perspective on life and aging.

“Did boomers think we would even get to the age of sixty? I still feel like I’m nineteen. I still feel like I can break the glass ceiling. I still feel I may fall in love again. I still feel I could make love to two men in the same day – at different times, of course. After all is said and done, boomers carry the burden of the expectation of that illusive American dream, which we ourselves created. Sixty is here and now, and what are we really going to do with the rest of our lives? Maybe, just possibly, there is time left for transformation. This is my story about sixty, sex and tango… you have your own.â€

A born and bred Californian, Joan grew up near San Francisco, and attended UCLA and Berkeley majoring in Theater Arts. She received two master’s degrees in education and theater, taught acting and published two acting textbooks. Turning to theater production in the late seventies, she co-founded The Meadows Playhouse professional theater – and its runaway success won her the Governor’s Award for Distinguished Excellence. When Joan moved to Los Angeles, she attended The American Film Institute as a Producing Fellow and began her writing and film-producing career. She wrote screenplays, one of which she turned into her first published novel, Women Obsessed.

Through her work as a drug and substance abuse counselor, and her current teachings as a yoga and meditation instructor at UCLA, Joan has helped many people instill positive change into their lives. She spends her free time with her family, traveling to exotic locales and dancing Argentine tango across the globe. Since the launch of Sixty, Sex & Tango, Joan’s booksignings and private salons have received critical acclaim. Don’t miss this warm, witty, heartbreaking, joyful blueprint of how to live life to its fullest!
