The community may be losing a vital part of social, civic, and economic thread  – The Century City Farmers’ Market must relocate from its weekly location at 1800 Avenue of the Stars. In response, the market has set up an online petition Aug. 10 to ask the public to help  support the market in finding a new home.

According to the petition, the “property management would like the Century City Farmers’ Market to be moved. If for some reason we cannot find a new location within Century City the market would be closed down.”

Century City Farmers’ Market is part of the California Certified Farmers Markets, Inc., a network of Los Angeles farmers’ markets that link farmers to communities, including in Brentwood and Pacific Palisades.

“If for some reason we cannot find a new location the market would unfortunately be closed down 60 days from notice,” the Century City Farmers’ Market Facebook wrote.

Located in the Plaza of the Topa building at 1800 Avenue of the Stars, the Century City Farmers’ Marker is open year-round on Thursdays from 11 am to 3 pm.

The Century City Farmers’ Market and Topa could not be reached for comment.

Among the 66 comments on the petition are impassioned pleas from professionals and residents who have relied on the weekday farmer’s market to get local and seasonal foods.

“Farmers’ Markets are incredibly important to our local farmers and their patrons – they provide alternative options from shopping at large grocery chains to support local business, and this market is no different. In the middle of Century City, where office buildings and skyscrapers surround the market – the access to local and fresh is all the more important to Angelenos and the people living and working in Century City,” Jessica Fry wrote on the petition.

Other supporters decried the idea of losing the farmers’ market because of its proximity to their offices.

“The Farmers’ Market is a great part of the culture in Century City. It promotes an environment/culture of recovery and renewal for those of us working in the area. Please keep it!!!” Rob Alexander wrote.

Mostly, comments championed their longtime Century City Farmers’ Market, but none offered ideas for where the market could relocate.

“This is the highlight of our work week – getting a chance to by produce, flowers, and food during a work day with no interruption to work flow is priceless to all of the businesses and their employees in the area. Please do not take our farmer’s market away!?” Sara Van Acker wrote.
