Before starting any home remodel project, it can be very helpful to consider the trends being reported by interior designers and others in the home remodel industry.

Thinking about a complete kitchen redo? You may get inspiration from some designers’ predictions for the updated kitchen in 2015. Furniture style cabinetry in the kitchen is one. This fosters the growing use of the kitchen as the hub of family activity rather than just a work station area for the preparation of food.

Weaving wallpaper into the kitchen is reported to be the next big trend to give the kitchen a warmer personal touch. It can add contrast to an otherwise pale palette of color and is anticipated to be used along with stunning lighting fixtures to create a “wow” impact in an otherwise dull kitchen.

Mid-Century modern elements are expected to be popular for 2015 from architectural elements to home furnishings, but some designers are reporting there will be a mix of both modern and traditional.

For example, in the kitchen, sleek flat panel cabinet doors may be replaced by classic profiles like Shaker doors. Materials can be expected to be mixed like modern stainless steel combined with wood and marble.

Retro hardwood color is making a comeback. Expect to see more gold, copper and bronze. Bright gold with extra shine will be an option to consider rather than the more common silver, chrome and stainless steel. The modern twist to retro gold is to use   a polished gleaming gold metallic for dazzling accents.

Look for wood finishes in their natural form instead of sleek, glossy finishes. Black is suggested as a trending color, for example in kitchen countertops. Art deco and striking vibrant colors are noted as important trends this year.

For bathrooms, the trend is to reflect the feel of nature. This can be accomplished by using stone and tiles that give the effect of natural elements like wood and raw stone and incorporating green indoor plants.

Free standing bathtubs are a continuing trend emphasizing the bathroom as a place for some zen-like relaxation time. To give a bathroom a more interesting look, geometric tiles are suggested.

According to Zillow’s 2015 home trend forecast, gold fixtures, wallpaper and cowhide accents are among the most popular design trends in 2015. The grey tone that has been popular in the last year will continue with some designers adding accents of bright color. The Zillow report indicates that blue will be the most popular accent color. Indigo blue or deep navy is expected to be a staple for 2015.

Looking at the trends can be an inspiration, but keep in mind that if you are investing in remodeling for the purpose of selling, everyone has their own individual tastes. Consulting with an experienced broker may help prevent you from putting more money into your property than you will be able to recoup at the time of sale.
