A woman believed to be in her 50s was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in the Silver Lake area as she apparently tried to run across the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The fatal collision on the southbound 101 Freeway, near the Silver Lake offramp, was reported at 5:40 a.m., said CHP Officer Anthony Polizzi.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver who hit the woman stopped at the scene, Polizzi said.
No stalled vehicles were seen in the area, according to the CHP, so it’s unclear why the woman ran across freeway lanes. The fatal collision shut down the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 6:05 a.m., according to Polizzi.
The crash has tied up southbound traffic on the 101 Freeway for miles and there’s no word yet on how long the lanes will remain closed for the investigation.
