There seems to be no end to the Annenberg Space for Photography’s continual and gracious summer lineup of free artsy events for the public.  Photosynthesis, a day-long outdoor photo and music festival, will be held tomorrow, Aug. 9, in Century Park, a lovely outdoor lawn adjacent to the museum. Doors will be opening at 2 pm.

Along with the recent Country in the City concert series, Photosynthesis is presented by the Annenberg Foundation as a part of its 25th anniversary and is a prime example of its tradition of investing in public spaces and the arts.

Three talented photographers will be spotlighted onstage, where they will present their works of art and elaborate on the stories behind their pictures. The images will be displayed on two 15′ x 15′ LED video walls.

Amelia Davis, Ethan Russell, and Mark Seliger will be the renowned photographers sharing their work. Jeff Dunas, who coordinates the Palm Springs Photo Festival, was responsible for hand-picking the featured artists.

An award-winning photographer, Davis is the owner and manager of Jim Marshall Photography LLC and will accordingly present a slideshow of Marshall’s extraordinary life work.

Russell is a director and the only photographer to shoot album covers of the likes of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. A multi-Grammy nominated photographer, Marshall will be recounting stories and photographs from music’s greatest era, based on his book “American Story.”

Seliger became the chief photographer for the Rolling Stones in 1992 and shoots often for renowned magazines like Vanity Fair, Italian Vogue, and German Vogue. As an author and award-winning photographer, it’s no surprise that Seliger’s work has been featured in the Annenberg Space for Photography among countless museums and galleries worldwide.

In between the photographers’ lectures, musicians of the country and blues genres will take over to entertain the audience.

The bands include the Murphy Family Band, Run Boy Run, the James Harman Band, and Rusty Truck (which featured photographer Mark Seliger is the founder and front man of).

Also featured at Photosynthesis will be booths by exhibitors including Canon and Fujifilm, who will be giving away prizes and discounts and offer opportunities to experience the latest photographic equipment. Complimentary photo booths, and of course, food and refreshments by a variety of cafes and food trucks, will also be readily available.

Photosynthesis will be the first Annenberg Space festival that is both outdoors and photo-centric, so be sure to check this one-of-a-kind event out tomorrow. The event not only offers a pleasant way to spend the day outdoors, but also provides a means to learn more about the world of photography, an art form that is undoubtedly climbing in popularity and prominence in this day and age.

Parking is $1 (in cash) at a nearby parking garage. The event is free, but RSVP is required.

To RSVP and to find out more information, visit annenberg25.org/photosynthesis.
