The Barrington Park Recreation Center recently played host to a project to benefit staff and the community.
A new office and organizational space was built at the center in an effort to add ease to daily operations.
Tahoe Kim, 15, is a student at Palisades Charter High School and a citizen of Brentwood. He also is a Boy Scout with Troop 777 in Koreatown and is working towards becoming an Eagle Scout.
“This project was to fulfill one of my requirements to become an Eagle Scout, as well as teaching me skills useful for leadership and guidance to others,” Kim said. “I wanted to benefit the park staff, because I used to attend basketball camp at the park when I was younger.”
Kim first learned of the need of office and organizational space while looking for a project to complete his Eagle Scout requirements. So he undertook the project of building a new desk for the rec center. Several of Kim’s troop mates also helped him complete the project.
“The purpose of the project is to give scouts the opportunity to have experience in leading other scouts and members to complete the project,” Kim said.
There was also need of a new shelf to organize sports equipment for the kids to use. Kim and his associates took care of that as well.
“I hope that the new office space will help the park staff organize the extracurricular activities that kids can participate in”, Kim said. “I do believe that the staff was satisfied with the final result, I hope that my organization and construction helped.”
