Chris Albrecht will continue as CEO of Starz under a newly approved employment contract that runs through 2020, the media entertainment company announced today.
The role of president is being added to Albrecht’s title and responsibilities, according to Greg Maffei, chairman of Starz.
Maffei said Albrecht “has developed Starz into a leading, innovative entertainment brand with award-winning original programming that resonates with U.S. and international audiences.”
“He has made remarkable contributions to the business over the past six years, and we look forward to his vision creating even more value for distributors, partners and shareholders,” Maffei said.
Starz’s operating units provide premium subscription video programming on 17 domestic U.S. pay television networks. The flagship Starz brand had 24 million subscribers in the United States as of March 31, with the Starz Encore SM network at 32.4 million subscribers.
Starz is sold through U.S. multichannel video distributors, including cable operators, satellite television providers, telecommunications companies and other online and digital platforms.
