The Sheriff’s Department will get $750,000 in federal grants to fund a collaborative approach to fighting human trafficking, authorities announced today.
The Board of Supervisors approved $250,000 in required matching funds.
Sheriff Jim McDonnell is set to establish the Los Angeles County Human Trafficking Task Force, which will include representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Homeland Security, as well as service providers such as the Department of Children and Family Services and Probation Department and the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking.
Supervisor Michael Antonovich praised the collaborative effort.
“Working in a regional manner, which includes our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, the county will be able to maximize its resources, increase officer training and awareness, explore additional deterrents and consequences for perpetrators,” Antonovich said. “And, most importantly, provide victims with the support and services they need on the path to recovery.”
