The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped to $3.57, today, and the average price also dropped in Orange County, to $3.507.
L.A.’s 1.3 cent drop was the 42nd decrease in 45 days.
“Local drivers are benefiting from a rapid price downturn caused by lower oil prices and some anticipations of lower gasoline demand,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager. “If local refinery issues don’t reappear, we can expect further drops in coming weeks.”
The average L.A. price has dropped 73.2 cents over the past 45 days, including 2.1 cents on Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The decreases follow a seven-day stretch of increases totaling 75.7 cents that pushed the average price to its highest amount since May 4, 2014.
The average price dropped for 26 consecutive days, had three days of increases totaling 10 cents from Aug. 12-14, then resumed declining on Aug. 15.
The average price is 13.6 cents less than one week ago, 55.4 cents lower than one month ago and 26.5 cents below what it was one year ago.
The Orange County average price also dropped for the 16th consecutive day and 42nd time in 45 days, decreasing 1.1 cents to $3.507. It has dropped 76.8 cents over the past 45 days, including 2 cents on Saturday.
The decreases follow a seven-day stretch of increases totaling 77.8 cents that pushed the average price to its highest amount since May 6, 2014.
The Orange County average price dropped for 26 consecutive days, had three consecutive days of increases totaling 10.2 cents from Aug. 12-14, then resumed declining on Aug. 15.
The Orange County average price is 14.3 cents less than one week ago, 59.2 cents lower than one month ago and 29.7 cents below what it was one year ago.
