A car struck four USC students near a campus gate Thursday, critically injuring one of them.
The crash happened about noon at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and McClintock Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The sedan ended up on the sidewalk, after slamming into a light standard.
The critically injured patient, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital, while the other three victims were treated at the scene and released, police said.
The 23-year-old woman who was driving the sedan had a medical emergency and was taken to a hospital, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section. The nature of the medical emergency and the driver’s condition were not immediately available, according to Herrera, and it was unclear if the motorist was also a USC student.
Jefferson Boulevard from Vermont to Hoover avenues and McClintock Avenue from Jefferson to 30th Street were closed due to the crash, according to the USC Department of Public Safety.
Also, the north side of Jefferson Boulevard was closed to pedestrian traffic between McClintock and Orchard avenues and Gate 5 to the campus was closed.
Traffic in the area returned to normal about 6 p.m.
