Lindsay Lohan tacks on more community service hours

Lindsay Lohan was ordered today to perform 125 additional hours of community service as part of her probation stemming from a 2012 crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, after the prosecution objected to some of the work for which the actress had been credited.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark A. Young also extended Lohan’s probation to May 28 to allow her to complete the requirement. She was originally ordered to perform 240 hours of community service, which her attorney said the 28-year-old actress had done.

Emerging from a lengthy in-chambers conference with the attorneys, Young said the “court is not willing to accept all the proffered community service hours.”

Another hearing is set for March 12 to determine what type of community service will be considered acceptable, according to Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Holley.

Holley said she did not object to the added hours, telling reporters that her client enjoys doing community service.

At a hearing last month, Santa Monica Deputy City Attorney Terry White told a different judge that Lohan was receiving community service credit for such activities as a meet-and-greet with volunteers and a “work shadowing experience” in London with two young people who were “basically hanging out with her.”

“If this was Lindsay Smith, nobody would allow this,” the prosecutor said. “I’d love to hang out with a celebrity all day and see their life, but this is not community service.”

White also questioned whether Lohan had performed community service during a recent illness.

Holley told Judge Richard A. Stone last month that her client continued to perform the work despite the illness, and that she was satisfied that a “true level of community service has been performed by Ms. Lohan,” despite what White said.

The actress pleaded no contest in March 2013 to reckless driving and lying to police in connection with a June 8 collision in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway involving a Porsche and a dump truck.

Lohan told officers she was a passenger in the car, but investigators later determined the actress was behind the wheel when the Porsche crashed into the rear of the truck.

As a result of her plea, Lohan was ordered to complete 30 days — equaling 240 hours — of community service, spend 90 days in a locked rehabilitation facility and to undergo 18 months of psychotherapy during a two- year probationary term.
