A motions hearing is scheduled for Monday at the Santa Monica Courthouse in Vicky Guerra’s negligence lawsuit against the state and the California Highway Patrol stemming from the death of her paparazzo son.
Christopher Guerra was taking images of a traffic stop of Justin Bieber’s Ferrari — driven at the time by rapper Lil Twist — when he was hit by another motorist after he was allegedly ordered by a CHP officer to cross to the other side of Sepulveda Boulevard on New Year’s Day 2013.
In her lawsuit, Vickie Guerra claims that the “CHP officer abused his authority by ordering Chris to unsafely cross a busy street.”
Vickie says her 29-year-old son obliged and was struck by a car traveling in excess of 40-50mph, adding her son flew over the first car and was immediately run-over by a second car.
In the wake of Guerra’s death, Bieber called the incident a “tragedy” and urged for better legislation “to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves.”
