An apparent love triangle turned deadly this morning in South Los Angeles when the estranged husband of a woman allegedly stabbed to death her new boyfriend and also cut his wife in front of their two children before being taken into custody, police said.
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a screaming child inside an apartment at 16201 Figueroa, just south of Alondra Boulevard, Los Angeles police Lt. Jeff Nolte told ABC7.
Nolte said that when officers reached the apartment they were confronted by the suspect who was “covered in blood.” Inside the apartment, officers found one man who was stabbed and later died, plus the suspect’s wife, who had suffered superficial knife wounds.
Officers also found two children in the apartment, ages 6 and 2, who had witnessed the deadly fight. Nolte said the children were taken into protective custody and police would be working with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and the children’s’ relatives to determine where they would go next.
Officers, he said, took the estranged husband into custody as a possible homicide suspect and transported him to the Southeast Station.
There were no details immediately available regarding the argument or how the stabbings occurred.
