“Fresh Off the Boat,” a comedy set in 1995 about an 11-year-old hip-hop loving Chinese American who has just moved with his family from Chinatown in Washington D.C. to suburban Orlando, will premiere on Feb. 4 with two episodes, ABC announced Wednesday.
The first episode will air at 8:30 p.m. following “The Middle” and a second at 9:30 following “Modern Family.”
“Fresh Off the Boat” will regularly air at 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 10, opposite CBS’ “NCIS,” television’s most-watched scripted series. It will fill the time slot previously held by the canceled first-year comedy “Selfie.”
“Fresh Off the Boat” is inspired by the best-selling memoir by chef and restaurateur Eddie Huang. It stars Hudson Yang as Eddie Huang, who initially struggles to make make friends at school.
The cast also includes Randall Park as Eddie’s father who has moved the family to pursue his version of the American dream of opening Cattleman’s Ranch Steakhouse, a struggling western-themed restaurant; and Constance Wu as Eddie’s mother Jessica, who also struggles to adapt to Orlando.
