Over a hundred friends and colleagues of Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, who served as medical director for FIFA and U.S. National Soccer Teams, showed their support for the Santa Monica-based orthopedic surgeon by attending a special launch party on Wed., Oct. 2 to celebrate the publishing of his book, “The Win Within: Capturing Your Victorious Spirit.”
After years of experience working with athletes, Dr. Mandelbaum wrote “The Win Within” in order to “debunk the idea that there is some mysterious process that motivates the extraordinary among us.”
According to Dr. Mandelbaum’s observations, those who are able to “marshal their inner victorious spirit to push through setbacks and perform at peak levels, both physically and mentally,” only capitalize on what he believes is “the genetic legacy of survival and perseverance that’s part of our collective history.”
Dr. Mandelbaum writes about the idea of using the “biological drive not just to survive, but also to thrive.”
The book launch party was a reminder to Dr. Mandelbaum of the peers who have continued to help and motivate him.
“I am humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support and the amazing reviews that I have received about this book,” he said. “It was incredible to share this special night with the people closest to me, who have inspired me throughout my career and encouraged me to write this book.”
Mandelbaum has published “The Win Within” amidst numerous other accomplishments, such as serving as the team physician for the LA Galaxy, the Director of Research for the MLB, and the Chief Medical Officer for the 2015 World Special Olympics. Mandelbaum has also worked with the national soccer team since 1991 and has participated in five World Cups in the process.
