The preliminary high school graduation rate for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 2013-14 was 77 percent, a hefty jump over the previous year, the district announced yesterday.
The district’s graduation rate in 2012-13 was 68 percent, up from 66.6 percent in 2011-12, according to the state.
Superintendent John Deasy called this year’s preliminary figure “a historic high.”
“The preliminary rate does not factor in students who completed their requirements in summer school and have also graduated,” Deasy said. “I expect
the rate to grow.”
The final graduation rate is expected to be released by the state in the spring. The rate generally reflects the percentage of students who entered
the district in the ninth grade and went on to graduate.
