The reported kidnapping of a 2-year-old girl near the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica was unfounded, police said.
Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Moroso told NBC4 the department received a call from the child’s mother at about 3:30 p.m. on June 12, reporting that the girl was kidnapped while she and the toddler were walking near the intersection Second Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
The mother described the suspect as an Asian man, about 35 years old and 5 feet 8 inches tall.
An investigation by department personnel dispatched to the scene determined that the girl actually was with her grandmother in Hesperia, Moroso said.
