Los Angeles police shot an armed man at Universal CityWalk today, police said.
North Hollywood officers responded to a disturbance call at 1:15 a.m. at a part of Universal CityWalk patrolled by the Los Angeles Police Department, said Officer Drake Madison of LAPD Media Relations.
“When they got there they saw a large group and heard gunfire in a large crowd,” Madison said. “They saw a male suspect with a handgun and that’s when the officer-involved shooting occurred.”
“The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and a handgun was recovered at the scene,” he said.
Two people were transported to hospitals, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Miguel Ornelas.
The shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out at the Infusion Lounge, according to news videographers at the scene.
Half of Universal CityWalk is patrolled by the LAPD’s North Hollywood Station and half is patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Madison said.
