Supporters of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council (LAWAC) enjoyed a Venetian Masked Ball on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Riviera Country Club. The internationally themed evening included Special Guest multi-hyphenate entertainer Eddie Izzard, Susie Hansen’s Latin Band, performances by the traditional Commedia dell’Arte style troupe and NPR’s Renee Montagne as Master of Ceremonies.
Diplomats from near and far, policy wonks and doyennes of the Westside social scene all enjoyed Montagne’s captivating stories about her reporting trips to Afghanistan followed by Izzard’s entertaining stories from his international travels which culminated in a rapid fire explanation of how the universe works.
Guests, clad in tuxedos and gowns donned masks many of which were works of art created by artisan Carla Almanza-deQuant whose hand made creations added a true Venetian feel to the festivities.
