Brentwood resident Catherine Nameth received a 2009 Distinguished Instructor Award from UCLA Extension in a recent ceremony on the UCLA campus.
Nameth has been an instructor in UCLA Extension’s American Language Center (ALC) for nearly four years. ALC offers English language instruction in a wide variety of formats for non-native speakers.
In addition to teaching classes in academic writing, business English, and English pronunciation for the workplace, Nameth has played a role in developing new English as a second language courses—for classrooms and online presentation—for ALC. She has taught English classes to facilities and hospitality staff on the UCLA campus as well as English pronunciation skills to high-level executives in the corporate setting.
“Catherine Nameth was recognized with a Distinguished Instructor Award by UCLA Extension because she continuously puts in an extra effort to make our American Language Center as effective and student-focused as it can be,†said UCLA Extension Dean Cathy Sandeen.
UCLA Extension handed out its first Distinguished Instructor Awards in 2006. The awards spotlight outstanding instructors in fields as diverse business, the arts, engineering, education, and the humanities. Distinguished instructor award recipients must have a minimum of three years and 60 units of teaching service with UCLA Extension. In addition to being excellent instructors, awardees must exhibit leadership in curriculum and program development, student mentoring, and instructor recruiting and development.
