A woman was killed and her husband injured Monday when they were struck by an SUV driven by a 91-year-old motorist in a post office parking lot in Mar Vista, authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Grand View Boulevard. The driver was backing her 1987 Mitsubishi Montero out of parking space when she “accidentally” ran over the couple, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.
Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as a cause, according to the LAPD.
The woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was 74, said Officer Drake Madison. The 83-year-old male victim suffered cuts and bruises and perhaps a broken bone, he said.
Drake said the driver, a 91-year-old woman whose name was not released, was interviewed at the scene.
