Kuehl, Shriver Setting Pace in Supervisor Race

Supervisor
Results of the race for County Supervisors – Third District.

With 33.65 percent of precincts reporting as of 12:25 a.m. on June 4, Sheila Kuehl and Bobby Shriver have emerged as the pace setters in the race to succeed Zev Yaroslavsky in the Third District of the County Board of Supervisors.

Kuehl has 26,500 votes (36.50 percent) according to the latest results. Behind her in second place is Shriver with 21,419 votes (29.51 percent).

In third place is John Duran with 11,237 votes (15.48 percent). Pamela Conley Ulich notched 5,059 votes (6.97 percent).

No other candidate crossed the five percent threshold.

If no one emerges from the eight-candidate race with a simple majority (50 percent plus one), then there will be a runoff featuring the top two vote getters.

As it stands just after midnight, it appears as if Kuehl and Shriver will square off against each other in the Nov. 4 general election.

The third supervisorial district mostly covers the Westside and portions of the San Fernando Valley.

Yaroslavsky was termed out of office after serving as Supervisor since 1994.

Also termed out of office this year was Gloria Molina, who represented the first district. Hilda Solis appears to be the clear-cut winner in that race, garnering more than 70 percent of the vote according to the latest reported results. If Solis maintains her wide margin over A.A. Saucedo Hood and Juventino Gomez, she will win Molina’s seat outright and a Nov. 4 runoff will not be necessary.

Other candidates in the third district race include Doug Fay, Rudy Melendez, Yuval Kremer, and Eric Preven.

Kuehl was a former state legislator, while Shriver served as mayor and council member in Santa Monica.
