Six candidates seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are expected to be participating in a candidates forum on Monday, April 28 at Mark Twain Middle School’s auditorium in Mar Vista.
The forum is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Zev Yaroslavsky, who represents much of the Westside in the Supervisor’s Third District, has been termed out of his seat and will not be able to seek re-election to one of the most powerful public offices in the County.
According to organizers, this will be the only supervisorial candidates forum in the Mar Vista area before the June 3 primary election.
Organizers also confirmed six candidates will be attending the candidates forum, including former state legislator Sheila Kuehl, West Hollywood council member John Duran, former Malibu mayor Pamela Conley Ulich, environmentalist Douglas Fay, educator Yuval Kremer, and writer and producer Eric Preven.
Two other candidates in the race – Rudy Melendez and Bobby Shriver – were not listed on the list of confirmed participants.
The April 28 candidates forum will be a question-and-answer format with a focus on issues such as foster care, homelessness, infrastructure repair, juvenile justice reform, light rail service on the Westside, and oversight of the County Sheriff’s Dept.
Supervisorial District 3 stretches from Silver Lake on the east all the way to Westlake Village on the west. In between, the Westside communities of Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Palms, Santa Monica, Venice, West Hollywood, and Westwood are included within the third district.
Mark Twain Middle School is located at 2224 Walgrove Avenue, Mar Vista 90066.
Yaroslavsky was elected to the County Board of Supervisors in 1994. However, recently enacted term limits has forced him to vacate his seat this year.
