Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers team in the Las Vegas-based NBA Summer League will begin practice Monday at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
Ball, the second player chosen in last month’s NBA draft, will be joined on the summer league team by Brandon Ingram, the No. 2 selection in the 2016 draft.
The team will also include two other players who played for the Lakers in the 2016-17 season — center Ivica Zubac and guard David Nwaba — and the rookies they acquired in draft day trades — center Thomas Bryant, guard Josh Hart and forward Kyle Kuzma.
The Summer League team has two other players with NBA experience — forward Travis Wear, who played 51 games for the New York Knicks in the 2014-15 season, and guard Vander Blue, who has played five NBA games and was the NBA Development League’s MVP in the 2016-17 season when he played for the Lakers affiliate, the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
The Lakers summer league team will be coached by Laker assistant coach Jud Buechler. It will start play in Las Vegas Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The team will then face the Boston Celtics Saturday and Sacramento Kings next Monday before beginning the tournament portion of summer league play. All teams are guaranteed of playing at least two games in the tournament portion.
All Lakers summer league games will be televised by Spectrum SportsNet, ESPN or NBA TV.
