Conference to Inspire Post-Election Refocus and Recovery to be Held

People in Los Angeles can get a jump start on election recovery by hearing inspirational speeches and making connections at the #140conf, returning to Los Angeles on November 14 at The Crest in Westwood.

With both name and format inspired by the brevity of Twitter, the #140conf schedule is fast-paced. Influencers in the areas of technology, lifestyle, health, art, mindfulness, and more will take the stage.

These 10-minute talks and 15-minute panels are interspersed with networking throughout the day. #140conf founder and internet pioneer Jeff Keni Pulver has held #140conf events worldwide since 2009. Pulver’s brainchild provides a platform for people to listen, learn, and most of all, create relationships that inspire positive change. Dubbed “The State of Now,” the conference underscores a commitment to exploring how the “real-time web” affects business and personal lives, but it’s much more than that.

“Taking the time to listen to people who have a story to share that can resonate with you, that’s

priceless,” Pulver said. “Yes, you can go for business purposes and you will learn things to better your practices, but more importantly, perhaps, better yourself and realize that people have the same struggles as you, and maybe you can help them as well. At the end of the day, it’s about community.”

Event co-producer Debra Eckerling, founder of Write On Online, stressed how the conference is aunique opportunity for personal or career development. “The #140conf is not your ordinary networking event. It’s filled with people who genuinely want to help

each other and create meaningful relationships on and off the web.”

Speakers include award-winning poet and author J. Ivy, The Sonnet Man Devon Glover, Youngry founder Ash Kumra, Techwalla Editor-in-Chief Dave Johnson, The Fit Cycle’s Andia Winslow, and authors Chandresh Bhardwaj, Marsha Collier, Robert Rosenthal, Amy Friedman, and Liz Strauss. (The complete lineup is available on the event’s Eventbrite page at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-2016-140conf-tickets-27277711369.)

“In addition to learning and engaging, the conference also creates a sense of synchronicity and

serendipity,” says Jeff Pulver.

“There’s something to be said about sitting next to somebody you’ve never met, but who couldpossibly change your life, or someone with whom you may be virtually acquainted, but who otherwise would not have met in person. People have relationships because they met someone in real life whom they may have connected to online, but now they’re real friends.”

Eckerling agrees. “We love our computers, and connecting by computer,” she says, “but really, there’s nothing that beats face to face ‘IRL’ (“in real life”) people-to-people communication.”

The #140conf “State of Now” will take place on Monday, November 14, 8:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Crest in Westwood, 1262 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, 90024. Discounts are available for students with code “lastudent.” The complete speaker lineup is attached, as well as on the event’s EventBrite page.
