Dodgers to Conduct Filipino Heritage Night

dodgersThe Los Angeles Dodgers will conduct Filipino Heritage Night at tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Dodger Stadium, including offering a special loaded hot dog.

The Pinoy Dog is a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog topped with diced Spam and pineapple, Sabretts’ onions in sauce and chicharrones. It will be available at the Extreme Loaded Dog concession locations on the field, loge and reserve levels.

Also in connection with Filipino Heritage Night, Joan Almedilla, who appeared on Broadway in “Miss Saigon,” will sing the national anthem; apl.de.ap, a rapper with the hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas, will throw the ceremonial first pitch; and U.S. Navy Petty Officer Second Class Keith Guiang will be honored as a Military Hero of the Game.

Guiang is a Santa Ana-based recruiter. He participated in two western Pacific deployments, two eastern Pacific deployments and one Rim of the Pacific Exercise, described as the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise.

Guiang’s awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

A ticket package including a Dodgers Filipino Night T-shirt starts at $39 and is available at dodgers.com/filipino.

The second Military Hero of the Game will be 93-year-old retired U.S. Army Capt. Morton Field, who according to the Dodgers, was the youngest captain in the Counterintelligence Corps during World War II, with duties including conducting counterespionage activities to catch saboteurs, spies and infiltrators before they could carry out their missions against Allied troops.

During the Battle of the Bulge, Field’s role included identifying Nazi SS commandos who infiltrated through American lines wearing U.S. uniforms. Morton also served as President Harry S. Truman’s bodyguard at the Potsdam Conference on the post-World War II future of Europe.

A fireworks show featuring old-school hip-hop music will follow the game. Fans will be invited onto the field to watch the show, which will take place before 11 p.m. and is subject to cancellation if the game lasts too long.

Auto gates will open at 4:40 p.m. and stadium gates at 5:10 p.m. The Dodgers will take batting practice from 4:20-5:20 p.m. and the Brewers from 5:25-6:20 p.m. Pregame ceremonies, including the national anthem and ceremonial first pitch, will begin at 6:57 p.m., with the game set to start at 7:10 p.m.
