Condolences were flooding in today to actor and comedian Patton Oswalt after the death of his wife, true crime writer Michelle McNamara.
McNamara, who founded the website TrueCrimeDiary.com, died on Thursday at the couple’s Los Angeles home, Lt. Dave Smith of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed today.
She was 46.
McNamara died in her sleep, according to media reports, which cited the comedian’s publicist.
An autopsy will be performed – possibly as early as tomorrow – to determine the cause of death, Smith told news wires.
“Absolutely crushed for my friend @pattonoswalt and his daughter…my thoughts and prayers are with you,” tweeted actor Kevin James, who starred on CBS’ long-running sitcom “King of Queens,” in which Oswalt had a recurring role.
Among the other celebrities tweeting their condolences to Oswalt were Will Arnett, Margaret Cho, Ken Jeong, Elijah Wood, Dane Cook, Mia Farrow, Carson Daly, Kevin Nealon, Jon Cryer and Christina Applegate.
Normally a prolific tweeter himself, Oswalt has not addressed the tragedy yet, but the latest post on his Twitter account is a link to a news story about McNamara’s death.
