A man was arrested today after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high speed chase mostly on surface streets from the eastern San Fernando Valley to Santa Monica, authorities said.
The unidentified suspect tried to walk away from his white Ford Econoline van on Ocean Avenue near Pico Boulevard, but CHP officers took him into custody, witnesses told a news videographer.
The pursuit began in Winnetka around 2:20 a.m., when officers noticed the van weaving in traffic. CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
The 40-minute pursuit included a brief period on the Hollywood (101) Freeway but mostly took place on surface streets at speeds ranging from 40 to 80 miles per hour, Villalobos said.
No officers were hurt in the pursuit, Villalobos said.
