“Birdman” wins big at Satellite Awards in Century City

The dark comedy and awards-season favorite “Birdman” won best motion picture honors and star Michael Keaton won best actor at the 19th annual Satellite Awards presented Sunday night by the International Press Academy.

The best actress winner was Julianne Moore for “Still Alice,” while J.T. Simmons (“Whiplash”) and Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”) were selected best supporting actor and best supporting actress, respectively.

Richard Linklater took home the best director award for “Boyhood.”

The ceremony was held at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Actress Ellen Burstyn was given the Mary Pickford Award; journalist/director Martyn Burke was presented the Auteur Award; actor Antoine- Olivier Pilon received the Breakthrough Performance Award and journalist Sebastian Junger was handed the Humanitarian Award.
