A small Northern California rice farm is recalling specific bags of its brown rice flour because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
Lundberg Family Farms sold its rice flour in bulk bins in retail stores and in 25-pound bags at stores and by mail.
The affected 25 bulk bags have lot numbers 141027, 141028, 141029 and 141030 stamped on the bottom seam of the bag. Persons who bought bulk brown rice flour, however, have no way to know if their flour is possibly bad.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, if consumed raw.
No serious illnesses have been reported to date from the consumption of the rice flour, but it tested positive and the company voluntarily recalled it, the farm announced.
Customers who purchased the brown rice flour should throw it out and then ask for a refund. More information is at (530) 538-3555 or by email from recall@lundberg.com.
