Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of a two-alarm condominium fire in Dana Point, where firefighters were able to rescue one dog but failed to save another one, a fire captain said today.
The fire in the 10 block of Los Cabos caused a total of $500,000 to the structure, completely destroying one unit and causing water and fire damage to four others, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene at 1:08 p.m. Saturday had the fire under control at 1:58 p.m. Saturday, Concialdi said.
A miniature schnauzer died in the fire, but firefighters were able to rescue Henry, a cocker spaniel mix, the fire captain said. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian for smoke inhalation treatment.
Concialdi said a firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury. He was evaluated at an area hospital.
The fire caused $350,000 worth of damage to the two-structure and $150,000 worth of damage to its contents, he said.
