New Kids on The Block, the boy band that was formed in Boston in 1984 and continues to thrill fans, will receive the 2,530th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today.
Arsenio Hall will join band members Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood in speaking at the 11:30 a.m. ceremony at 7072 Hollywood Blvd., between Sycamore and La Brea avenues.
The band released its self-titled debut album in 1986. Its popularity grew with the 1988 releases of the ballad single “Please Don’t Go Girl” and what is considered to be its breakout album, “Hanging Tough.”
New Kids on the Block won American Music Awards in 1990 for favorite pop/rock band, duo or group and favorite pop/rock album for “Hanging Tough.”
At the time it disbanded in 1994, New Kids on the Block had sold 80 million albums and had five platinum albums, 10 top 10 singles and five No. 1 singles.
The band secretly reunited in 2007 to record “The Block,” which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart when it was released in 2008. It resumed touring that year
In 2013, New Kids on The Block released their sixth studio album, “10,” which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart, and co-headlined “The Package Tour,” along with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men.
The group performed in four shows in Las Vegas in July.
